| LOCATION: Rockport, In the Village Overlooking Rockport Harbor |
This classic Maine cottage, located right on Rockport Harbor with great views has just undergone a complete renovation. A historical building from the 1800`s, the cottage was taken down to its framing over 2008/2009 and basically has been rebuilt as a brand new cottage. All the furnishings in the cottage are brand new as of 2009. With modern amenities, a master bedroom suite with king sized bed and two decks overlooking beautiful Rockport Harbor, this cottage is a great spot for 2 couples or for up to a family of 5. As of the end of the summer of 2009, post renovations, the cottage seemed to be most popular with couples looking for a romantic getaway close to it all, but in ultimate comfort.
Entering the cottage is the large open kitchen area with granite counter tops and beautiful views of the harbor. The living room beyond the kitchen features a gas fireplace, large windows and sliding doors leading out to the deck.
A new section of the living room is designed to be open, or curtained off to make a sleeping area for the 3rd and 4th guest on a pullout queen sofa. The other living room love seat turns into a twin sized bed. Both pullouts are very comfortable with extra mattress padding to ensure complete comfort. A 1/2 bath completes the first level.
Upstairs, the grand master suite with king size bed (or 2 twins) faces the harbor and sunrises. The En suite bath allows light in through a glass block wall. From the master suite, you can walk out onto the second story deck overlooking the harbor.
Located at the head of Rockport Harbor, this property is conveniently located to all that Camden/Rockport area has to offer. Small and beautiful Rockport is on the west side of Penobscot Bay, between Rockland and Camden. Fifty years ago, Rockport was home to lobstermen and fishermen who built their weirs in the harbor, but today the harbor is mainly for pleasure boats.
Rockport was at the heart of the Midcoast lime industry, and you can still see remnants of several old kilns on the waterfront nearby. The kilns inspire images of the night sky aglow with fires. The harbor, crowded with kiln wooders, unloading cords of four-foot spruce logs and limers loading casks for Boston and New York. Great piles of white lime tailings are still visible in Walker Park and on the banks of the Goose River. One story is told that a locomotive is buried in one of these piles, and small boys dig and dream.
If you like to take walks, follow Mechanic Street out towards Beauchamp Point where there a public access points to the rocky shore overlooking the harbor. Enjoy walking past large estates owned by some of today`s most elite business people and former CIA operatives.
Launch a kayak from the dock in the harbor nearby and paddle the harbor, keeping a watchful eye out for harbor seals.
